Swatch CEO Urges Swiss President to Negotiate with Trump Over Tariffs

ZURICH (Reuters) – Swatch Group’s Chief Executive, Nick Hayek, has urged Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington to secure a better deal than the 39% tariffs announced on Swiss goods imported into the United States.
Speaking to Reuters on Monday, Hayek expressed confidence that an agreement could still be reached before the tariffs, which were revealed on Friday, take effect on August 7.
“Karin Keller-Sutter is the head of the Swiss government; she is the president,” Hayek stated. “She should get on a plane and go to Washington. That would enormously increase the chances of a deal.”
“It’s not the end of the world. A settlement can certainly be reached. Why would Donald Trump say tariffs are coming on August 1 and not apply them until the 7th? The door is always open,” Hayek added.
